Here is a snapshot of what the teardown process on a big block Lycoming IO-540 out of a Robinson R44 helicopter looks like, from start through to ready for NDT.

End to end overhauls are our favourite specialty. It’s a satisfying process to take a dirty, burnt-out looking drop-off and see it shined up, clean, and ready for testing.

After this she will return to her excited owner and gather memories from the skies once more.
